After the victory over the Londoners, Shakhtar head coach answered the journalists’ questions.
- The game worked out just as I’d expected. At the pre-match press conference, I said that we can play and now even outplay such clubs as Chelsea. It has probably been one of our most spectacular matches recently, since the meeting with Arsenal. This is to confirm that we are growing and our youngsters get stronger, turning in increasingly more confident performances. We prepared well for the match, having examined the opponents’ strengths and weaknesses. I can admit that today's Chelsea are stronger than the Chelsea who won the Champions League. Therefore, our victory is even more weighty - we played against a very strong opponent. I am sure that we fully deserved this win. The scoreline might have a more flattering look, but Cech just worked wonders between the sticks – I’d like to highlight him. Overall, I am happy with the game pattern and with how we suppressed Chelsea’s attacking moves in their initial phase. Probably our combinations embarrassed the opposition's defence. We more than often made it into their box, but for our failure to convert the created chances. This is a vital victory, but we still haven’t achieved anything. We have three more Group E games to play, and each of them will be tough, starting with the one in London. I am sure that Chelsea will look a lot more serious than today. I should also mention FC Nordsjælland. We studied their encounter with Chelsea, the Londoners gave the scoreline such a lopsided look only in the game’s dying stages. It can be proved by the Danes’ stalemate with Juventus today. Moreover, in Denmark there were moments when Nordsjælland were bossing the game against Chelsea. So, it will be a very difficult match in Copenhagen, not to mention Juventus. Ahead, we have three very important games, the outcome of which no one can predict. Today we should celebrate this win, then we will think about our next matches.
- Yesterday, at the press conference, you promised to answer the question after the game: How much easier is it for Shakhtar to take on the clubs whose game style is similar to yours and who try to play in an attacking way?
- It depends on the level of the team we play. Today Chelsea played defensively, they did it very often, but in the English Premier League they enjoy an absolute advantage over the other clubs, having not lost a single game. It’s hard to tell whether it's easier to play against the defending or attacking team. It all depends on what happens on the field of play.
- Shakhtar acted superbly, they didn’t let Chelsea play their own game, but the impression was spoilt a bit by the goal your side conceded. What happened in that episode? And evaluate, please, how well Douglas Costa entered the game.
- That moment still needs to be analyzed later. I wouldn’t like to answer now. The player easily penetrated the penalty area. But it’s very difficult to make substitutions in the dying minutes. I have already said that the players who enter the game are not fully collected – probably, they may be slack. Sometimes we have the opportunity to win 30 seconds when making changes towards the end of the match, but the footballer who comes on can ruin the game preceding the substitution. It’s a great pity that we gave away that goal - it was a completely unnecessary one.
