Shakhtar’s midfielder has shared his impressions in the wake of the Pitmen’s win over Chelsea.
- Chelsea are a good team, but, thank God, we scored an early goal. The game became much easier. There were free zones in the opponents’ half of the pitch, and we were able to create chances. It was a pity that we didn’t convert all of them. But the main thing is our win.
- Did you have to work really hard?
- Yes. This is not the Ukrainian championship. When playing in the Champions League, you must move faster, close down the zones, orchestrate fast attacks. There are no weak opponents. All the teams are very strong. We must know how to defend, how to attack. We were aware that it wouldn’t be easy, and did everything possible to win.
- Were you a little beware of the opponents?
- I wouldn’t say so. Our team are on the rise, and we must continue in the same spirit. There’s a lot of work to be done.
- Did your heart waver after conceding a goal?
- No. We played well throughout the whole match. We were very calm and composed.
- 15 shots on target is a phenomenal result. But arises the following question: how to score against Cech?
- We scored twice nonetheless. (Laughing.) We could have scored more. This is football. You cannot put away all chances
