Shakhtar through to Champions League last 16!

On November 20, Shakhtar played their fifth game in the 2012/13 Champions League. In Copenhagen, the Pitmen claimed a 5-2 win over Nordsjaelland.

As always, you can view the teams’ squads in the match report. It should be noted that today the Pitmen were wearing their away white kit for the first time in this edition of the Champions League.



4 minutes. The Pitmen took a corner kick on the right flank. The ball bounced to Fernandinho, but the opposing defenders blocked Ferna’s effort.

10 minutes. Christensen picked up the ball inside the near the opposition penalty area, but Kucher was there to dispossess him in a difficult situation.

14 minutes. Teixeira darted into the penalty box, skipped past two defenders and crossed to the far post, but none of his team-mates got on the end of it.

15 minutes. Willian played a ball to Rat, before the latter drilled a cross into penalty box, only for Mkhitaryan to miss the target from close range.

24 minutes. Goal – 1:0. John managed to deliver a cross into the penalty box for Nordstand to tap in the opener after being left unmarked.

26 minutes. Goal – 1:1. The referee allowed a controversial goal, after the opposing player hit the deck. Willian played the ball towards Nordsjaelland’s goal. Adriano picked it up, bore down on goal and beat the goalkeeper. Despite the Danes’ protests regarding ‘fair play’, the referee counted the goal.

29 minutes. Goal – 2:1. Lorentzen dribbled past Rat in the Pitmen’s penalty area before firing a powerful effort into the roof of the net.

40 minutes. Mkhitaryan received a ball from Willian before sending it wide of the post.

44 minutes. Goal – 2:2! Fernandinho danced past a number of opposing defenders and cut the ball back. Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s shot was blocked by the defender, but Willian capitalized on the rebound.

50 minutes. Goal – 2:3! The Pitmen took a corner on the right flank. Willian picked up the ball before cutting inside to score his trademark goal into the far corner of the net.

53 minutes. Goal – 2:4! Willian played the ball to Teixeira before the latter drilled a cross from the right for Adriano to smash the ball home.

64 minutes. Adu received a yellow card for a foul on Fernandinho in the middle of the pitch.

67 minutes. Luiz Adriano got a yellow card for an identical foul.

68 minutes. Stokholm got an opportunity to fire goalwards from 25 meters out. The ball took deflection off Rakitskiy and went out for a corner.

71 minutes. Lorentzen missed the target from close range following a sharp counterattack.

78 minutes. Douglas Costa came on for Alex Teixeira.

81 minutes. Goal – 2:5! Rat delivered a cross into the penalty area before Costa flicked the ball on for Adriano to seal his hat-trick.

83 minutes. Eduardo came on for Luiz Adriano.

86 minutes. Ilsinho replaced Willian.

90 minutes. Oleksandr Kucher and Anders Christiansen received yellow cards.

90+2 minutes. Parkhurst was shown a yellow card for a foul on Eduardo.

90+3 minutes. The referee’s final whistle signalled Shakhtar’s confident win. Given that Juventus got a 3-0 win over Chelsea, Shakhtar have already advanced to the last 16 of the Champions League with one game in hand!
